Be a Volunteer Mediator
CDR requires volunteer mediators to attend a Basic Mediation Training of at least 30 hours that also meets the criteria as laid out in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR Chapter 718). This training is offered in Eugene as well as other communities around Oregon. CDR's volunteer mediators adhere to the Oregon Mediation Association's Standards of Practice.
Once the Basic is completed, CDR provides on-going in-service training and mentoring to its volunteers. In addition to participating in actual mediations, CDR volunteer mediators may be asked to perform direct services for clients including: case development, case management, scheduling and making appropriate referrals. Experienced volunteer mediators may be involved in mentoring newly trained volunteer mediators.
The criteria on which we base our selection of new mediator volunteers includes: commitment to community service, ability to interact effectively with all types of people, ability to abide by confidentiality rules, an aptitude for effective conflict resolution skills and a willingness for ongoing training and development.
In addition to working with other mediators in client settings, volunteer activities may include: case management, general office duties, data entry, fundraising and/or public speaking. Mediation experience and supervision are available for new mediator volunteers through CDR's programs.
